In light of recent events – Newton County becoming the only county out
of 159 in Georgia to have a full-time Commission Chair, County Manager,
and Asst. County Manger, and this past weekend’s revelation in the
Covington News that County Attorney Wm. Thomas Craig was paid over
$820,000 in 2013 - the Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance had decided
that the best course of action for the Newton Co. taxpayer is to engage
in an active and intense campaign of contacting your respective Board of
Commissioners (BOC) representatives and the BOC Chair, Keith Ellis.

February 18, 2014: Newton Co. Board of Commissioners Meeting on Asst. Co. Manager Position; BOC Agenda

The Newton Co. (GA) Board of Commissioners will be meeting this evening, Tuesday February 18th, at the Historic Covington Courthouse on the Square at 7PM. Tonight will be the meeting where the BOC is to set to formally approve the creation of and salary of the position of Assistant County Manager.
As has been documented, Newton County is one of two counties out of 159 in Georgia that have both a full-time Commission Chair and a full-time County Manager. If they approve this tonight, then it widely believed that Newton will have the distinction of being the only county in Georgia to have the previous positions in addition to a full-time assistant manager. All three of these positions will each be paid over $80,000 per year plus benefits.
Certainly it seems that the majority of Newton Co. taxpayers are against this, but the Newton BOC seems intent on making it happen. It's up to us - the citizens - to hold our elected officials accountable. Please attend tonight's meeting and let your voice be heard.
There is also a workshop planned in the lower level meeting room about what direction to go with Newton Co's governmental structure. This is scheduled for 6PM.

Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance Meeting This Thursday, February 13
NEWTON CONSERVATIVE LIBERTY ALLIANCE
Local Grassroots Group Meeting This Thursday; Congressional Candidate Gary Gerrard to Speak
(Covington, GA – 11 February 2014) A local conservative grassroots
group, the Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance (NCLA), is meeting this
Thursday evening, February 13, at 7PM at Mt. Pleasant United
Methodist Church located at 55 Hwy 229 (corner of Hwy 278 and Hwy 229)
for its monthly meeting.
The group is very excited to have Gary Gerrard, an attorney from Lexington, GA and a Republican candidate for U.S. House (10th district), as their featured speaker. Mr. Gerrard will be discussing what he sees as "a crisis like never before" in our country and his ideas and solutions for getting things fixed in Washington D.C. Also speaking to the group will be Doug Kidd who is running as a Republican candidate for the Georgia Public Service Commission. There will be Q & A sessions with each speaker as well.
Also on Thursday evening, the NCLA will be recognizing and honoring Rosalee Thompson, Director of the local Newton Community Food Pantry, for her service and commitment to the local community.

the group will spend some time discussing the current county budget
situation and creating a citizen's committee to work on a proposal to be
submitted to the Newton County Board of Commissioners detailing a plan
to reduce the county's budget so that the millage rate can be lowered
this year.

December Meeting
We are meeting this Thursday evening, December 12, at 7PM at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church located at 55 Hwy 229 (corner of Hwy 278 and Hwy 229) for our monthly meeting. We're very excited to have Melvin J. Everson as our featured speaker. This meeting will also be our Christmas party.
Mr.
Everson is a political activist who has held elected office in the
Georgia Legislature and the Snellville city council. He served for 23
years in the United States Army on both active and reserve duty and is
currently the Executive Director of the Georgia Commission on Equal
Opportunity. To learn more, please visit his bio at the GCEO website. Mr. Everson is known for giving inspirational, informative, and passionate speeches. You won't want to miss this one!
We will be
collecting toys and canned food items for the needy, so if you can,
please bring one
of those. Also, since this will also be our Christmas party, several of
