Local Grassroots Group Plans Meeting to Continue Property Tax Fight; Commissioner John Douglas to Speak

(Covington, GA - 5 August 2013) A local grassroots group, the Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance (NCLA), is meeting this Thursday evening, August 8, at 6:30 at the Newton Co. Library (Covington location) and is asking concerned taxpayers of Newton Co. to attend. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the best way to move forward after the Newton Co. Board of Commissioners voted to raise property taxes last month. Commissioner John Douglas, the lone member of the BOC to vote against the tax increase, will be the featured speaker. A social meet and greet will begin at 6PM, with the meeting to start at 6:30. There will be a Q & A session after Douglas speaks with the meeting set to end no later than 7:30PM.

According to Aaron Brooks, spokesman for the NCLA, it is vital that the ball starts rolling as soon as possible. "We need to strike while the iron is hot - we've got to keep our heads down and keep working hard. We must keep the BOC's feet to the fire so that they will make those 'bold, long-term, strategic' decisions that will save the county money and lower our property taxes as soon as possible."

Recently founded because of this very issue, the Newton Conservative Libery Alliance is a grassroots group dedicated to America's founding principles of freedom and liberty that believes in sound, constitutional governance that holds taxpayer dollars in the highest regard.

Also, the Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance has gotten a good bit of press lately fighting for the Newton Co. taxpayer. Here is a link to the most recent write-up from Crystal Tatum at the Newton Citizen.

And here's a nice quote:

According to Aaron Brooks, spokesman for the NCLA, the meeting will focus on holding commissioners accountable and “more importantly, making sure we as citizens are doing our part to point out the inefficiencies in government that we think could lower the amount of money that the county is spending right now.”
“We need to strike while the iron is hot — we’ve got to keep our heads down and keep working hard. We must keep the BOC’s feet to the fire so that they will make those bold, long-term, strategic decisions that will save the county money and lower our property taxes as soon as possible,” Brooks said.

And from last month, here is an article, also from the Citizen, regarding our protest at the July Newton Co. BOC meeting.  And another article describing the protest after the meeting.

One more superb quote from our esteemed spokesperson, Aaron Brooks:

“We, as members of this community, were told that these officials were going to stand and make bold decisions when it came to the use of our tax dollars, but instead they are taking the path that has been traveled far too long in Newton County by sticking their hands out for more of our hard earned money,” said Aaron Brooks, spokesman for the Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance, which organized the rally. “For far too long those that have worked hard to better themselves have been asked to carry the burden of an overspending government. Our voices should ring a solemn chorus of no more.”
Exciting, albeit challenging, times in Newton Co. Please join the fight for freedom and liberty, and please do join us this Thursday evening.

In Liberty,
